Rodri Move to Barcelona Edges Closer as Manchester City Talks Advance
Barcelona are increasingly confident of signing Rodri from Manchester City, with negotiations over the Spain midfielder said to be entering their final stage. ESPN reported on Monday that talks between the clubs are progressing well, while Mundo Deportivo claims an agreement worth around €55 million plus add-ons has been struck, leaving only minor details to resolve.
The Blaugrana’s initial €45m offer fell short of City’s €80m valuation, but the two sides have edged towards a compromise in recent days, as Barça Blaugranes reported. Barcelona want the deal wrapped up quickly so the Ballon d’Or winner, fresh from lifting the World Cup with Spain, can join up with Hansi Flick’s squad when the international contingent reports back on Wednesday.
What Rodri’s arrival would mean for Barcelona
The 30-year-old would slot straight into the heart of midfield and, according to The Touchline, his impending arrival has left vice-captain Frenkie de Jong “surprised”, with the Dutchman wary of losing his starting role. To help fund the move and stay within LaLiga’s financial limits, the Catalans are working on outgoings, including the potential exit of Ferran Torres.
Neither club has made an official announcement, and nothing is done until the paperwork is signed. But with the framework of a fee in place and the player keen to reunite with Spain’s World Cup winners at the Spotify Camp Nou, Barcelona are hopeful of confirming one of the summer’s marquee signings in the coming days.
