Barcelona Attack: 26 Goals in Six Games and Five Names Doing the Damage

Barcelona’s attack has now scored 26 goals in six competitive matches this season, and the most striking thing about that number is how few of them belong to any one man.

Hansi Flick’s side made it five wins from five in LaLiga on Sunday with a 2-4 result at the Ciutat de València, and the scoring has been shared out so evenly that opponents are running out of people to mark.

The Barcelona attack has 26 goals from six matches

The raw totals: 21 goals in five LaLiga fixtures, an average of more than four a game, plus the five put past Feyenoord in the Champions League opener. Twenty-six in six. At the other end, Barcelona have conceded four all season in the league — and half of those arrived in the closing 25 minutes at Levante.

Only one Barcelona side in the club’s history has scored more across the opening five matchdays: the 1950-51 team under Ferdinand Daucík, who managed 23, with César Rodríguez scoring on every one of those five weekends. Flick’s current group sits two goals short of that mark, as Mundo Deportivo noted on Monday.

Five names, and no queue for the ball

Figures compiled by ESPN FC set out where it is coming from across those six games:

  • Raphinha — 8 goals, 3 assists
  • Lamine Yamal — 7 goals, 2 assists
  • Fermín López — 4 goals, 2 assists
  • Anthony Gordon — 4 assists
  • Karim Adeyemi — 3 goals, 1 assist

Between them, those five have supplied 22 of the 26. The captain leads the way; Lamine Yamal’s brace at Levante took him level at the top of the Pichichi standings alongside Raphinha, Kylian Mbappé and Sergio Camello. Fermín arrives from midfield rather than waiting on the last line. Gordon, signed from Newcastle in the summer, has not scored at all and has still been involved in four goals.

The rest of the list tells the same story from further down the squad. Xavi Espart opened the scoring on Sunday with his first senior goal, and Gabriel Jesus opened his Barcelona account against Feyenoord with his first shot at the Spotify Camp Nou.

Why it makes the Blaugrana so hard to plan for

A defence preparing for this Barcelona attack cannot simply crowd a centre-forward. Lamine can drift infield to finish or stay wide to create; Raphinha attacks the far post and the space behind a full-back with equal appetite; Fermín breaks late from midfield; Gordon and Adeyemi give Flick two more runners to bring on when legs go. It also buys the German something he was short of last season — the freedom to rotate through a congested calendar without the goals drying up.

The contrast with the champions’ nearest rivals is stark. Real Madrid, second and three points back after their own 4-1 win over Rayo Vallecano, have scored 14 in five. Barcelona’s goal difference is +17.

Two wins from the best start in the club’s history

This is the sixth time Barcelona have taken 15 points from the opening five LaLiga matchdays, after 2009-10 under Pep Guardiola, 2012-13 under Tito Vilanova, 2013-14 under Gerardo Martino, 2017-18 under Ernesto Valverde and Flick’s own first season in 2024-25. The record start — seven wins from seven — is shared by Martino and by Flick himself.

Two more victories would equal it. Racing de Santander visit the Spotify Camp Nou on Wednesday at 21:30 CEST before a trip to Sevilla on Saturday evening. On the evidence of a Levante night that was comfortable until it suddenly was not, the defending will decide whether Flick gets there. The scoring, on this evidence, will look after itself.
